Meet the Dentists

Robert Funk, DDS

Dr. Funk is a 1991 University of Iowa College of Dentistry graduate with advanced training in hospital and trauma dentistry at Loyola University Medical Center. He joined Shorewood Family Dental Care in 1992 and is now managing partner.

Dr. Funk is a lifelong Joliet/Shorewood resident. He believes in continuing education and preventive, modern treatment for his patients. He treats others the way he would want to be treated, with respect and gratitude. Dr. Funk lives in Shorewood with his wife Lyn and children Nina, Robbie and Jackson and his pug dog Cosmo. In his free time he enjoys outdoor sports.

Henry Vicioso, DDS

Dr. Henry Vicioso graduated from Devry Institute of Technology with a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology in 1979, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola University of Chicago in 1986, and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1990 from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry with a postdoctorate clinical externship in the Department of Oral Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences in 1991.  Dr. Vicioso has been in private practice since 1991.  He joined Shorewood Family Dental Care in 1997 and became a partner in 2002.

Dr. Vicioso is involved in the community and participates in the following service organizations.

Dr. Vicioso is dedicated to protect and improve the appearance of our patients’ teeth so that they may keep their smile for a lifetime.  Providing gentle individualized treatment to our patients, Dr. Vicioso begins with listening to our patients’ concerns, wishes, and desires.  This, coupled with uncompromising care and treatment, allows him to provide the best possible dental care.

Dr. Vicioso resides in Joliet with his lovely bride, Amy and their dog, Mabel.  They enjoy traveling, casual bike riding and vintage automobile racing.

Gina Mueller, DDS

Dr. Gina Mueller is a 1997 graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a 2001 graduate of the University Of Illinois College Of Dentistry. She joined Shorewood Family Dental Care in 2001 and became a partner in 2005. She comes from a family with deep roots in dentistry, as her grandfather, Mr. Lucien Caruso founded the Ottawa Dental Laboratory in 1936. Her father has been making porcelain crowns and veneers at the laboratory since 1970. As a student working her way through school, Dr. Mueller was an employee of the lab, making crowns, dentures, and delivering cases to local dentists.

Dr. Mueller resides in Ottawa with her husband Craig, a teacher and coach at Ottawa Township High School, and their American Bulldog, Duke. In her free time she enjoys running 5Ks, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.  She was excited to finish the Indianapolis Half Marathon on May 2, 2009! 

She volunteers her time at the Will-Grundy Medical Clinic providing free dental care to those in need.  One of her goals is for the young patients of SFD to enter adulthood needing only routine dental care.  This is accomplished with preventative and proactive dentistry. Dr. Mueller is grateful for the opportunity to treat patients of all ages with the same respect and care she would give to her own family.

Richard Craig, DDS

Dr. Richard Craig is a 1972 University of Illinois Dentistry graduate with a Post Doctorate Degree from the University of Chicago.  He is the founder of Shorewood Family Dental Care which was established in 1974.  Dr. Craig is a member of:

• Illinois State Dental Society
• Will County Dental Society

Dr. Craig has received 6 patents related to products designed to improve infection control in dentistry, and has lectures extensively throughout the United States on that subject.  He was a consultant for the United States Military and has helped OSHA make instructional videos on proper infect control in dental offices.  He has been interviewed both on national and international television about his work on infection control, and has been the author of numerous articles related to his studies.  Dr. Craig was commended in the House of Commons in England for his work.  Dr. Craig has also been a consultant for many dental manufacturers throughout the United States to help make their products safer.

Dr. Craig retired from practicing dentistry at Shorewood Family Dental Care in January 2008.  He has opened two Midwest Dental Sleep Centers, located in Shorewood and Oak Brook, IL

Dr. Craig lives in Joliet with his wife Robin.  They have three grown children, Melaney, Scott and Marilee.  When he is not busy at work, Dr. Craig loves to partake in outdoor sports of all kinds.

Jason McDonald, DDS

Dr. McDonald is a 2004 graduate of The University of Iowa, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion.  Upon graduation, he traveled east for four years to the Case School of Dental Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.  After graduating in 2008, he was happy to be back home in the Windy City, where he practiced downtown for a year, before joining Shorewood Family Dental Care in February of 2009.

Dr. McDonald is a firm believer that in order to maintain an overall healthy lifestyle, it is essential that patients participate in good home care, as well as routine cleanings and exams with your Dentist.  Far and away, Dr. McDonald thinks that one of the best things about dentistry is that every patient brings something new and exciting to the office on a daily basis.  He enjoys working with patients of all ages, and loves helping patients both create and maintain the beautiful smile that they have always wanted.

Dr. McDonald lives in Chicago, just footsteps from the home of his favorite sports team, the Chicago Cubs.  In his free time, he enjoys hanging out with his friends, working out, and running along Lake Michigan with his dog, Buddy.
