Implants
Implants are tooth replacements which anchor directly to the jaw bone. When a tooth is lost, the implant is placed into this jawbone area, often times into the same socket, below the gum line. These titanium implants have small abutments, or pegs, which screw into them and support a crown, a bridge or a denture. A patient may have only one or several implants depending upon the number of teeth that are being replaced.
The main advantages of implants are that they preserve the jawbone from eroding away, they are the most durable and provide the most stability and drawing force and feel most like the patient's natural teeth functionally and psychologically. Implants have the highest success rate of any restoration performed in dentistry.
