Diagnodent
The diagnodent is a cavity detecting laser used to find evidence of decay (cavity) in early stages before damage to the tooth structure has a chance to progress. The dentist's explorer (pick) usually finds a cavity once it has broken through the surface and spread to the soft part of tooth. This technique has been used by the profession for over 150 years. The diagnodent cavity laser can locate decay by measuring the "reflection" bacteria emit, before the tooth structure damage is severe. Therefore, smaller fillings, many without a shot, can be performed.
